Alternative Bridal Trends

If your special day is in the calendar and the countdown has begun, then as the Bride chances are one of your main priorities is to nail the perfect dress. But what does perfect mean to you? And what if you don’t want a dress? Not every woman dreams of the fairytale gown, the tiara and the veil – maybe you are on the search for something more suiting to your personal style? Your wedding day is the one day that you will spend wearing the same item of clothing from dawn to dusk and that has probably been a rather hefty investment for you, so you want to make sure that you feel comfortable and your absolute best in whatever you choose! So today we thought we would give some inspiration for how you can explore the alternative Bridal trends of 2019 here at Newton Hall.

Alternative Trends

The Jumpsuit

Probably the first idea that springs to mind when you hear the phrase ‘alternative Bridalwear’. The classic jumpsuit. Think a la Solange Knowles’ jumpsuit back in 2014 – that kind of vibe. Jumpsuits are perfect for girls who love to move around freely, don’t want any fussy hemlines and want to feel secure and comfortable all day and night. Not to mention, you could probably bag yourself a big bargain by opting for a jumpsuit as they aren’t a traditional wedding cliche and we all know what that means – a lot of designers don’t stamp a Bridal price tag to it. With high street retailers such as ASOS, Topshop and John Lewis & Partners joining elite designers such as Stella McCartney, Jenny Packham and Viktor & Rolf the trend is really taking off with new designs escalating the limits of the Bridal world.

The Suit

Who wears the trousers? She does! Show everyone your inner boss lady persona with a strong power suit. Whether you opt for white, cream, beige or a totally different colour all together – the options are endless and you can really have fun with the suit trend. Not to mention, if you are having a summer wedding, it does not need to be a trouser suit, why not try a skirt and blazer suit or switch it up for tailored shorts? Defined cuts and tailoring will elevate the look and make you feel sharp as a dart and put together perfectly for your big day. Have fun with the suit trend – add lace, feathers, sleeve detail, anything that you like an outfit to have, experiment with!

Away with a tiara!

If the thought of wearing a tiara on your wedding day makes your toes curl, then why not try out an alternative such as a top hat with a veil (cast your mind back to The Parent Trap – the bridal photo shoot scene, and you will understand the vibe we are going for here!) This is eccentric, bold and unique – three things that will make your wedding day ‘look’ be remembered for years to come!

However if the hat idea is just a little bit too out there for you, then how about trying a simple headband, flower crown, or pretty hair slides? There are many things you can switch up a tiara to achieve a modern, unique and stylish finish to your overall image on the day, and an affordable cost too!

Colour Palette

Yes, it has been made tradition for many years that a Bride is to wear white to her wedding to symbolise innocence and purity but if you are hung up on the idea that a white look is not what you want, then don’t be afraid to break the mould and do exactly feels right for you! Perhaps you never wear white in your day-to-day wardrobe, or you don’t feel like you suit it, then don’t feel like you have to wear it to suit tradition or the ‘norm’. Perhaps try a blue tone – which can represent calmness, peacefulness and femininity – all things that you would most likely life to feel on your big day! Or if you really want to go against the tide – how about a red option? Red Bridal choices are actually popular in many cultural-based weddings and can symbolise love, infatuation, excitement and passion – all things that your relationship is most likely based on!
